It's Good To Be Me

Greetings from sunny, muggy, super-humid Boston!

Once again, I am on the road, but this time, I am much further away from my home. I'm spending a few days in a city I have always wanted to visit, ever since I watched my first episode of Cheers.

I write this posting at the end of Day 1 of BT11 (that's Boston Trip 2011, for those of you following along), and what a jam-packed day it has been!

Here are a few things I would like to share about what I have learned of Boston (so far):
  1. The letter "U" does not appear where I think it should appear.
I'm sorry, but it kills me to see a sign that reads "Harbor", and not run over to scribble in that missing "U". I know this is the American way, but I just can't let it go (hence the Red Pen Assassin moniker).
  2. Bostonians are crazy-ass drivers.
And I thought Montreal was bad. I have never seen such an aversion to blinkers in all my life. And there are, like, a thousand lanes on those interstates, and people dance between them like they have no cares in the world. I almost lost my lunch about 600 times on the 40-minute drive from the airport. And speaking of lunch...
  3. Olive Garden totally rocks.
Yet another almost-lifelong dream of mine fulfilled within three hours of landing! The food is super yummy, the breadsticks are uber-tasty, and we had one of the best waitresses ever. Cheers to you, you Italian dream.
  4. Uncle Kracker is, indeed, cooler than the flip side of my pillow.
The man himself performed a special show at the Hard Rock Cafe, for $10 a ticket. Despite a super-late start (based on the fact that I didn't get the information right and made too many assumptions, but I digress), the show was awesome. He sang his classic songs, including the one that contains the above-mentioned lyric, and even did a tribute to the great Kenny Rogers on a wicked cover of The Gambler. Well done, Mr. Uncle. Fantastic show.
That's a lot of lessons to learn in one day. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings, what with outlet shopping, and the Kenny Chesney concert.

Damn, it's good to be me. :)
