I'm Like A Brand-New Chick

Back-to-school is such an exciting time of year, don't you think?

Sure, there's the whole "Get the kids away from me; it's been a long summer" viewpoint. And the classic "Lady, you ain't been in school for MANY years, so stop trying to recapture your youth" approach that those like myself other people often face.

But I prefer to look at the return to school as "This is a time for new beginnings". And I'm all about beginnings. Love the excitement of encountering new things: new food, new projects, new places, new opportunities.

I've never bought into the New Year's resolutions crap. January is such a horrible month for so many reasons. I mean, you're cold all the time, the weather sucks, you're broke from the holidays...need I continue? So why do you want to make it worse by putting added pressure on yourself to change everything that someone tells you is wrong with you?

September, on the other hand, is a great time for renewal. The leaves are starting to change as fall approaches, and the little rugrats are heading back to the classrooms with their shiny new pencils and binders, their hopes and dreams in tow.

This is what I love about back-to-school...a happy time for everyone.

Unless, of course, you're a kid...easy to like it when you don't have to go!
